Michelle Fidelia was born in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, NC and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, alongside her three older sisters and loving parents. She earned dual degrees in International Studies and French with a minor in Spanish from North Carolina State University in 2014. Following her graduation, Michelle joined the Peace Corps from 2015 to 2017 in the Dominican Republic, where she utilized a federal grant to construct a school library and provide laptops donated by Lenovo for her community.
After her Peace Corps service, Michelle worked as a social worker for a year before immersing herself in disaster recovery efforts. She was deeply engaged in this work and spent a year in Puerto Rico post-Hurricane Maria, assisting those still grappling with the aftermath. As a center manager, her team was instrumental in rebuilding homes, including the first one in the western area of Puerto Rico, among others.
Returning to the United States, Michelle served as the office manager for a disaster recovery team in Florida, supporting individuals impacted by Hurricane Irma. This meaningful work has been a central focus of her career for over five years.
Transitioning to a remote position after becoming a mother, Michelle continued her work in disaster recovery while adding project management responsibilities to her role. She now oversees federal grants allocated to local communities nationwide.
Recognizing the need for support services for new mothers balancing work and childcare, Michelle founded Sisters United, a nonprofit dedicated to helping single mothers who have experienced traumatic childbirth and postpartum experiences. The organization aims to empower these mothers with healing tools to thrive and raise their children with pride. Michelle believes in the power of sharing her story to inspire other women facing similar challenges, reminding them that there is always hope and light even on the toughest days, empowering them to become the women they aspire to be.
